Windows in packaging
Definition
We can insert a window in packaging so that the consumer can see the packaged product.
Window machines can attach windows in PET, acetate, and biodegradable films in all types of foldable boxes. These window machines are equipped with an error detection system to avoid double, faulty, or non-adhesive windows.
Which film for your product?
PET (polyethylene terephthalate)
This film has a closed structure and low water vapour permeability. It is less suitable for deep-frozen packaging or for hot meals that are inserted into the packaging while hot because the foil will then fog up (we call this 'fogging').

- Stable
- Clear and, therefore, suitable for luxury packaging
- Anti-theft packaging
- High density, which allows you to use a thinner film and, therefore, reduce cost.
Acetate film
Made of wood fibre/pulp. It is a natural film, made from a renewable PEFC-certified raw material. Its high-water vapour permeability makes it suitable for food with a high moisture content, including donuts, berries, salads, or sandwiches.
Food that is inserted in the packaging hot, or frozen food packaging is also best packaged with this foil. The high WVTR (Water Vapour Transmission Rate) prevents fogging.

- Compostable and biodegradable (EN 13432 Industrial composting, OK compost Home voor films <100µm)
PLA film (PolyLactic Acid)
Is biodegradable, biocompatible and is produced from renewable vegetable raw materials (maize starch or sugar cane). It is, therefore, used as a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics from petroleum chemicals.

- More expensive film
LDPE-folie (Low Density Polyetheen)
This film is made from petroleum. It is soft and does not cause injury. That is why it is mainly used for tissue packaging (handkerchief boxes).
